Pool Building FAQ

Everything you need to know about building your custom pool with Pools of Houston. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact our team for personalized assistance.

Pool Design & Construction

How long does it take to build a custom pool in Houston?

Most custom pool projects take 8-12 weeks from permit approval to completion, depending on the design complexity, weather conditions, and any additional features like outdoor kitchens or water features. We provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.

What types of pools do you build?

We specialize in custom gunite pools, beach entry pools, and freeform designs. Gunite pools offer the ultimate in durability and design flexibility, allowing for virtually any shape, size, or depth configuration.

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes, we manage all permits, inspections, and HOA approvals as part of our full-service pool construction. Our team is experienced with Houston-area building codes and requirements.

Can you build a pool in a small backyard?

Absolutely! We design pools for backyards of all sizes. Our team creates custom designs that maximize your space while incorporating features like swim-up seating, plunge pools, or cocktail pools perfect for smaller areas.

Beach Entry & Specialty Pools

What is a beach entry pool?

A beach entry pool (also called zero-entry or walk-in pool) features a gradual slope into the water, mimicking a natural beach. It's perfect for families with children, elderly family members, or anyone who prefers easy pool access.

Are beach entry pools more expensive than traditional pools?

Beach entry pools typically cost more than traditional pools because of the additional materials and specialized construction required. However, many homeowners find the accessibility, aesthetics, and resort-like experience worth the investment.

Can you add a tanning ledge to my pool?

Yes! Tanning ledges (also called sun shelves or Baja shelves) are one of our most popular features. These shallow areas are perfect for lounging, placing chairs, or letting children play safely in just a few inches of water.

Do you build infinity edge pools?

Yes, we design and build infinity edge (vanishing edge) pools. These work especially well on sloped lots or properties with beautiful views, creating a dramatic visual effect where the water appears to extend to the horizon.

Outdoor Living & Add-Ons

Can you build an outdoor kitchen with my pool?

Absolutely! We design complete outdoor living spaces including fully-equipped outdoor kitchens with grills, refrigerators, sinks, and bar seating. We coordinate all elements for a cohesive design.

What water features do you offer?

We offer a wide range of water features including waterfalls, spillways, fountains, deck jets, bubblers, grottos, and fire & water bowls. These features add visual appeal and the soothing sound of flowing water.

Do you build fire pits and fire features?

Yes, we design and install custom fire pits, fire bowls, and fire walls that complement your pool and outdoor living space. Fire-on-water features are especially popular for dramatic evening ambiance.

Can you add automation to control my pool and outdoor features?

Yes! We install smart pool automation systems that let you control your pool equipment, lighting, water features, and heating from your smartphone or tablet. Control everything with the touch of a button.

Cost & Financing

How much does a custom pool cost in Houston?

Custom gunite pools in Houston typically range from $65,000 to $150,000+ depending on size, design, and features. During your free consultation, we provide detailed pricing tailored to your specific vision and property.

Do you offer pool financing?

Yes, we partner with leading pool financing companies to offer competitive rates and flexible terms. Many homeowners finance their pool project with affordable monthly payments. Visit our financing page for more details.

Is a pool a good investment for my home?

In Houston's warm climate, a well-designed pool can add value to your home. Beyond resale value, pools provide years of family enjoyment, health benefits, and lifestyle enhancement.

What's included in your pool estimate?

Our estimates include everything: design, permits, excavation, steel and gunite construction, plumbing, electrical, tile, coping, decking, equipment, and startup chemicals. We provide transparent, all-inclusive pricing with no hidden fees.

Service Areas & Process

What areas do you serve?

We build custom pools throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, League City, Pearland, Friendswood, Katy, Spring, Missouri City, Tomball, Conroe, The Woodlands, Humble, Cypress, and surrounding communities.

What happens during the pool design consultation?

During your free consultation, we visit your property, discuss your vision and budget, assess the site, and take measurements. We then create a custom 3D design that lets you visualize your pool before construction begins.

How do I get started on my pool project?

Simply contact us to schedule a free consultation. We'll visit your property, discuss your ideas, and provide a detailed estimate. Once you're ready to proceed, we handle everything from permits to the final swim!

Do you provide warranties on your pools?

What Our ClientsSay

Real Stories. Real Satisfaction

Nick went above and beyond to make our pool and landscaping perfect. He is honest and extremely knowledgeable. He was a pleasure to work with!

We hired Nick at Pools of Houston to build our dream pool in our new backyard and he definitely delivered. The space was unconventional and a tight fit for a lot of the machinery, but they pulled it off. Nick took everything we asked for and mocked it up using his software so we could see exactly how it would look in real life. There were no surprises. He wasn't pushy, he didn't try to upsell us.

Nick and Lisa from Pools of Houston were very easy to work with, not to mention very professional. Nick's phone call and text response time is maybe 5 minutes, if not shorter. He is not about sugar coating what he does. We enjoyed working with them and trust his crews. Nick will even send you a cute video set to music from the beginning of the project to the end.

Nick did an amazing job from start to finish, from designing our ideas to completion and start-up. While other pool companies want you to come to their showroom, Nick comes to your house and backyard, which is his showroom. He knows the equipment and every aspect of the build from top to bottom and gives you that personal experience you'll look for when making such a big decision.

Pools of Houston made my experience very easy and smooth, one that we don't regret. I'm not one to write reviews, but after my experience I just had to.
